Thursday Cheers and Jeers

Another weekly installment, celebrating exceptional service and drawing attention to service that.....well, sucks.

Cheers
  • Roy Ursan and TR Sales. If you're looking for an honest, reliable mechanic, Roy's your guy! The dealership wanted $1700 to fix my SUV. Roy did it (better) for $800. 'Nuff said.
  • Prairie Mobile Communications. Excellent service, before and AFTER the sale.
  • Sparky's. This little restaurant on Gordon Road makes darn fine pizza. It almost made up for the Packers' loss to Arizona in the NFL playoffs. Almost.
  • O'Hanlon's. The place smells "musty", but the garlic cheese fries can't be beat!

Jeers

  • The service department of the aforementioned (rhymes with Gapital Smord) dealership.
  • LL Bean. Like the clothes, but hate the quality! I had to "retire" another pair of khakis from there this week. They basically fell apart.
  • Pat Robertson, the tv evangelist. Reverend Pat says God is punishing Haiti. Reverend Pat is an asshole.

Okay, your turn!

Cheers

Inside Pitch Baseball Academy
- Outstanding pitching development camp for kids

Regina Red Sox Baseball team hosted another 2 day indoor camp that was very good

General Lube (on Sask Drive)
- Very good small business for getting an oil change

St Andrews Anglican Church on McIntyre
- A couple weeks ago we couldn't attend our regular place of worship on a Sunday morning due to another comittment. This place has a really nice 5 p.m. service on Saturdays. Very convienant, and helps parents who have trouble "balancing time" to have a place to go.

Jeers:
Pat Robertson
- His ministry along with all those other shysters generate untold millions, and they help absolutely nobody.

Evraz Place Hockey Rinks
- Played the first game there, and that facility makes you wonder how we ever lived without it.

If Haiti's national religion is voodoo, then why would God be pleased with that? I don't think God approves of voodoo. If all of your children constantly went against you and cursed you, would you be happy with them? You would still love them, but you would not be happy with them. I'm not saying God did this on purpose, but He might've allowed it to send a message to the people of that country and the world. Similar thing to Thailand when the Tsunami hit awhile back. That nation is pretty corrupted. Only God knows the true answer. I do really feel bad for the people of that country though.

PS - Sorry Pete if this offends you, but I just thought I should mention it.

No offense taken.

I don't know if God approves of voodoo or not. He hasn't shared that information with me. I suspect Pat Robertson wasn't in on that meeting either.

So, as human beings, I would humbly suggest our role in this tragedy is to offer our sympathy and our assistance. The religious and ethical implications, if there are any, are a mystery to me - and (I firmly believe) to Pat Robertson too.

However, I will add that - no matter how much my children (child) disappoint and/or anger me - I'm not going to respond by wiping them off the face of the earth. But that's just me...

Of course the expert that wrote that above post maybe didn't rememeber the Sunday School lesson where God told Noah he would never ever do that again. I also think that as many times as his chosen people the Israelites went against him, and actually worshipped other Gods (Baal) that he never once decided to wipe them off the face of the planet. Based on what good old Canadians due we should be darn lucky he hasn't decided to call our number yet.

Whether or not God did this/allowed this to happen/whatever, it gives people the opportunity to be good Christians and help our neighbours.

Cheers to the Chimney, for personally seeing to it my mother had a great birthday supper there. Sparklers and 2 free desserts - we all left fat and happy!

Jeers to Shoppers Drug Mart and their new layout at Rochdale Mall. It's bad enough you have to walk through clouds of perfume to get to the groceries/post office/drugs in every one of their stores, but at Rochdale they actually *hide* the doorway into the store proper so you can't even see it until you're overcome by perfume. I sent a complaint, and they said they'd look into it, but they haven't changed anything. Perhaps if enough people complain?

Sorry for the rant - one of my biggest peeves is that a person who may have allergies has to walk through the perfume to get their allergy medications. It's why I no longer get my prescriptions there.

Another Jeer to people at the off-leash park who have large dogs but can't control them off-leash. It makes it dangerous to take smaller dogs there.

Dang. More Jeers than Cheers this week. I must be in a bad mood. I'll try to do better next week.

Bev hit the nail on the head. "Love our neighbours" might be the advice to follow here.

Again you may have had X amount of Christians in Haitti who were punished because some of them adher to Voodoo.....give your head a shake.

Regarding the Dogs. There is this asshole in Cathedral that walks 2 dogs on residential streets off the leash. Abit of self awareness should come into play, but again "love our neighbours".

The Shoppers issue is very poinant. That place outright stinks during Mothers Day and Christmas time.

Yes I agree with the Love your neighbours, very good advice. Unfornutely innocent people would have to suffer in a situation like this, but ultimately they have nothing to worry about if they are christians, they will spend eternity in paradise! As for the other people who do not believe in Jesus as saviour, I feel horrible for them as does God, but he does not choose where you end up, you do.

Your sense of compassion for your fellow man rings through...

Your pontificating reminds me of the story Jesus tells his followers regarding the Pharissees. I'm paraphrasing, but they like to make long prayers, and brag about how devout they are. Don't listen to them he tells us.

The next kid that gets killed in a car accident I'll be sure to tell his parents, "don't worry"...

Very good advice....Jesus tells us it is the most important thing to do along with loving God with all your heart. However the Blogger on Pete's Blog says it's "very good advice".....you are a total knob.

I never once said it was easy, it just helps to ease the pain. What do you believe in sir/madam? That this life is all for nothing and we just die and that's it? Why are so ticked off?

Exactly Stan! Leave the judgement up to God. It's not anger on my part. I am a Christian, but I believe it best if guys including myself take a more humble approach rather than be the one who feels the need to cast judgement. Jesus tells us in the Gospels we are to clothe the poor, and take care of the widows, orphans, and sick. We are not to judge lest we be judged, and we are to forgive as we have been forgiven.

The issue comes into play when these guys like the above poster and Pat Robertson make dispicable comments that somehow God is punishing these people for transgressions. Their tiny, government corrupt, oppressed, poverty stricken island happens to be on a techtonic plate fault line resulting in the worst natural disaster in 200 years. You know what this was? Bad luck. America and Canada are Christian nations and guess what? Los Angeles up to Vancouver falls on a similar fault line. When that big one hits you can bet the retard patrol of Pat Robertson and his ilk will be out in full force to condemn the people for somehow not being Christian enough. They did that in New Orleans. Some Asshole forgets to build a proper levy, and somehow that disaster is God's judgement.

Truly sad are the people that think along those lines.

Obama (I didn't sign my handle before, but you best believe where these statements are coming from)
