Pats move on

For the first time since the spring of 1998, the Regina Pats have advanced to the second round of the WHL playoffs. Brett Leffler scored the overtime winner to give Regina a 2-1 victory over Swift Current in game six of their opening-round series. Now, Curtis Hunt's crew has to wait for the outcome of the other first round tussles to determine their next opponent. It could be Medicine Hat. Might be Kootenay. Possibly Calgary. Maybe even Brandon. Makes it a little tough to prepare, I would imagine.

And, now that he's eight, I thought it was time last night to introduce Jacob to the cultural phenomenon known as Wrestlemania. He enjoyed it immensely. And the tasty 'za from Mama Palazzo didn't hurt, either!

It won't be Kootenay...If Medicine Hat wins their series, the Pats will play them no matter what else happens. If Kootenay wins and Med. Hat wins, Kootenay plays Brandon. If Kootenay and Red Deer win, they will play eachother and Regina plays Brandon (that would be a great series!)

Good on the Pats cause this was a long time coming. No matter who they play next, its going to be tough. I hope they have another series in them. Rowatt is now starting to play like an NHL draft pick and he will have to get even better as the post season goes on.

This series may serve the Pats well ie; how tough teams play at home, how hard it is to win #4, how not to ever take your foot off the gas, how not to assume you can win at home just cause you have a good home record, how to win on the road if you have to, how to play in overtime.

If they had won in four games etc, they might have started to think this playoff stuff is easy. It truly is not so now they know. They have many wars ahead of them if they want to be successful and to win them you have to pay the price. Those that do. move on. Those that don't, go golfing. Hopefully those lessons have be learned.

The Pats have to some extent been the victims of bad officiating the last two games. It is obvious that the Pats have no friends in the WHL Officiating ranks. This has been an ongoing problem for decades. If they are penalized only 2-3 times more per games, they consider it a draw. This should be corrected but likely never will. Brent Parker is well within his rights to be ticked and is willing to pay the fine to stand up for his team

Having to kill off two penalties in overtime is nasty! Good on the Pats, and especially Rowatt for surviving that. Let's hope they learned the lessons you mentioned.

Ooops - no, they can't play Kootenay. Can't say that I'm sad about that either. A Regina/Brandon series would be an absolute war! Where do I sign?
