Thursday Cheers and Jeers

It's been a tough week. I may be a little crankier than usual.

Cheers
  • Dr. Glenn Ollenberger. When he's not busy doing the "doctor thing", or taking off on exotic holidays, he does a darn fine job keeping our tennis club website updated.
  • BCG Canada Inc. Tim Hubic and company are going to do a darn fine job redesigning and hosting the previously mentioned website.
  • Krav Maga Regina. Wanna burn off some stress? This is the way to do it!
  • Garth Schill at Dilawri Acura. One helpful (and patient!) guy.

Jeers

  • You just have to read the front page of today's Leader-Post to know what is upsetting me today.
  • People who accept whatever they read as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
  • JYSK. Yet another retailer that offers nothing in the way of customer service.
  • Krazy Kiley's (again). It's going to take something special for them to redeem themselves, after two months of piss-poor service.

That's enough from me, or I'll keep going all day. Like I said (wrote), it's been that kind of week. So, what's on your naughty/nice list this week?

Front Page of the Leader Post?

Look this guy has been under investigation since 2008. The same issue with Eric Tillman. He spent a year telling everyone he was going to clear his name then pleads guilty. What do you think is going to happen in this case? I've seen this 1/2 dozen times over the past 20 years. Here is a guy that worked his way into a situation where he could prey on vulnerable youth. Hey in 1989 Hockey News had a mazazine with Graham James on the front that stated, "Man of the Year". Let's not be naive.

Not exactly. The cops investigated in 2008 and didn't find any reason to lay a charge. Now, two years later another kid comes forward. And then another chimes in.

Did I mention this is the same group of kids who were really angry about their teacher/coach leaving to go to another school? Accused him of being a sell-out?

I'm not saying their accusations are crap, but I'm not ruling it out either.

Naive indeed.

I don't take *anything* the LP says at face value. I also don't believe that sort of thing as a place in the media, for simple fairness. It doesn't matter if the accused did it or if the accused is acquitted -- people will always remember what the person was accused of doing, and look on the person with distrust. This sort of thing creates a trial by media, which is unfair, injust, and just plain wrong. Once a person's identity is given in a case like this, there is no chance of 'innocent until proven guilty'.

And that's my rant on that for today. I suppose that's my biggest jeer.

Another jeer: Pasta Prima -- I'm sorry folks. I love your food, and you're usually really good to us... but your service has become painful. Seat a person, maybe bring a drink, then ignore the person for 20 minutes. Even when others join the person, there is often a wait before anyone shows up to take a drink order.

And I'll end off on a cheer, to calm my blood pressure a bit:

Cheers to Pawsitive Attitudes Dogzone dog training. Wonderful, personable trainers who show you how to make your dog *want* to do what you want. My dog and I are both happier after this course, and we've both learned some things about training. I heartily recommend these wonderful people for training classes or other dog-related services.

Hey, did you read the list of charges? Procurement...do you know what that means? So those Burnouts he coaches put together an elaborate plot over 2 or 3 years to frame the Coach? Hey I was around when Cory Goff went through this, and Myles Taban. They were the popular coaches who said the accuser(s) had no let got stand on. All of a suddnen the email exchanges are brought to light, then it' oops on their part.

He would also know, and you know this as a Coach that you never ever ever put yourself in a position where it is just you and the player alone in a gym, field, or rink.

To the above Poster you can also add prominent Saskatchewan Hall of Fame Wrestling Coach Bob Lowes to the disgraced group.

The reality is, and studies show this is these types of predators work their way into these types of situations. Cory Mathews could have gone anywhere to teach yet he works in that pig pen? He did it because those are very at risk, and vulnerable people to prey on. We'll see what happens, but it's just another example of where individuals don't want to see the truth.

Ask the Police who they pick up in that neighbourhood who doesn't get their names in the paper. You'd be very surprised. SO he hosted a Cable Show with you, he must be innocent...

I'm willing to let this play out before passing final judgement. Unless I'm supposed to believe no one has ever been unjustly accused before? It doesn't take an elaborate plot at all.

But, if he's found to be guilty, then I'll have to accept that I totally misjudged the person/situation.

Either way, this is rotten stuff.

We're in a different society. If he was accused there is good reason, and evidence. You don't just charge someone. If he talked to the Police, and tried to talk his way out of it they just listen. The second he says, "I touched him, but it's not like you think"...boom he's charged! Why would you ever put your hands on a student or for that matter discuss anything other than homework or basketball?

The Catholic abuse scandal is a separate incident, but let me draw a parrallel. The victims stated that had they ever mentioned their Priest was abusing them, they'd get a smack in the mouth at home. You've read the comments from that zero Joe Rawlco state Mathews was, "a God in North Central". A God really? He's a Teacher who is doing what a hundred other guys throughout the public and catholic system are doing. Teach class, volunteer to coach, and that is in his job description. The only reason people know him is what he does takes place in the biggest toilet in our city. People want to make this a positive story because that area is a complete blight on Regina. Prior to this it was the Dirty Dozen running team, and everyone was stunned about what happened there. Again really? Taking kids to Las Vegas, and thinking they'll sit in their rooms, and not get into trouble.

Pig Pen and Toilet are the exact words to describe that area. If it's so great move there, and send your kids to Albert School or Scott Collegiate. McLeans magazine had that area described down to a T. I know someone that taught elementary school there. You can establish as many basketball teams as you want, but garbage does not leave the dump believe me.

Innocent until proven guilty. In this society, that is hard to do. I don't know Corey as well as Pete does, but I would be shocked if he engaged in this type of behaviour. If he is guilty, he wouldn't be the first person to go down like this nor will he be the last. Lets let justice take its due course here before crucifying the individual.

Yeah innocent until proven guilty or his lawyer can plea bargain it down to a lesser offence.

Correct not the first and not the last.
