Monday musings

I've got to free up some head space for an expected influx of new ideas and concepts:

  • I don't see the point in wasting a lot of time analyzing what went so very, very wrong with the Regina Pats this season.
  • From this vantage point, it looks as though the leaders didn't. Lead, that is.
  • The Pats need to do a much better job at the import draft. Cerveny and Hrcina weren't exactly impact players this season.
  • Mind you, at least they came to Regina (see: Kopitar, Hanzal, et al).
  • If I had a vote, I'd be inclined to cast it for Garrett Mitchell as the next captain of the Pats. Yes, even if Eberle, Teubert and Leffler come back next season.
  • As much as I enjoy watching young Jacob play, a 7:15 a.m. playoff game on a Sunday is cruel and unusual punishment.
  • Somewhere, Tim Hubic is smiling at the train wreck that the board of Hockey Regina has become.
  • Online registration for Regina Minor Football was supposed to start yesterday. Still waiting.
  • The lead item on a local radio sportscast this morning dealt with the head coach of the OHL's Ottawa 67's having coached his final regular season game. Not his final game, just his final regular season game.
  • Meantime, the Pats' season concluded on the weekend, with no mention in the same sportscast. Curious, that.
  • And for those following the saga, the J-man isn't moving anywhere!

If what you are alluding to with J-man moving....having to put you through the stress of something like that is cruel and unusual punishment.

Hi Pete - (Old fan here) I haven't posted for a while. I along with most hockey fans in this community have really had it with this organization. That being Parkers reign of power. A number of years ago we were talking about nothing happening with teams under his watch. Well it is still not happening. I listened in to Sportsline tonight and found it to be a friggin joke the way Remple and Pedersen tried to defend Parker, Ripplinger and Derkatch. It was supposed to be for fans to call in but hacks like Remple and Pedersen take up most of the time trying to justify some stupid position. Like it's impressive that tons of ex-Pats are doing great elsewhere? How does that validate the organization? When you look at what we got in return, it is just pathetic. This is supposed to be a show for fans to call in but these pretend know-it-alls take up all the time shouting callers down. They were hung up on shot blocking but until a coach teaches a kid how to do it, they simply don't know. One caller said something like "what has Parker won in 14 years" and there was total silence. Not too much to say then. Bogus and bush.

Trying to put this last season on the players is about as low as it gets. This was managing and coaching all the way. Maybe some players were cancers but that is what you have a trade deadline for. We were told we had top four talent, but that was a huge mis-read. This team didn't fail from the christmas break on down, it was back as early as November. They had all their players on the west swing. Even with supposed decent talent, they couldn't even manage to be a .500 club on the west swing or while some players were away. It is the coaches job to motivate and guide players, and that didn't happen.

This team like always has been poorly managed. It was poorly coached this year with no system, no discipline, no defense, and no playoffs. It lacked team speed, overall talent and character. It is the GM's job to trade away the cancers but nobody was traded. One can only assume that he didn't think they were that bad. But now they suddenly are the reason for the demise? This team will never amount to anything as long as Brent Parker is the manager, plain and simple. We just have to get ready for another bad year.

Hey Pete:
I can't believe Rod would ignore the Pats and run with Brian Kilrea during a morning sportscast. Amazing!!!!!
