Monday musings

This is shaping up to be one darn busy week:

  • Thank you Hockey Regina for scheduling young Jacob's next hockey practice at the same time as the Riders' final regular season home game. That's terrific.
  • Were the Riders lucky to knock off Hamilton 30-29 yesterday? Yes they were. Did they still play better than the Tabbies? Yes they did.
  • I jokingly told the folks sitting next to us that Steven Jyles will start at quarterback next week. Now I'm not so sure it was a joke.
  • Personally, I'm hoping Darian Durant gets another shot.
  • The Regina Pats are still searching for their identity. But now they get five straight home games to figure it out.
  • Damien Ketlo will be a starting goaltender in the WHL by the end of this year.
  • It's fun to write a 25 page keynote address that nobody wants to provide me background information for! Fun!
  • Regina Minor Football has openings on the board of directors. Contact Kelly Hamilton or Len Antonini at the RMF office if you're interested.

The Riders got 120 mins of football left in the regular season. That works out to about 40 mins for each QB. Frankly somebody better emerge soon cause the playoffs are just around the corner and we don't have a bona fide #1 QB. No way!

Ketlo stole a couple of games for the Pats. He is technically and athletically better than the other two. That means Parker will likely trade him! In my mind I would play the kid until he at least loses. I agree he will be a starter somewhere and by rights it should be here but it appears they can't seem to get anything for Rowat!! This three goalie thing is starting to be a real problematic distraction for the team.

The Pats do need an identity. They don't score enough to be a high octane offensive team. They give up far too many goals to be a defensive team. What the hell are they?? I don't know. They need at least one more stable blueliner, partcularly if they are going to take the number of penalties they do. They also have to find a rugged forward who can #1 go to the net regularly #2 win a fight. The Pats are pretty much where the deserve to be in the standings. Parker better bolster this team or they will stay where they are pretty much the whole season. They are in the same boat as a number of teams but are in no way even close to being elite. Moving Rowat and one of the non performing 20 yr olds would be a start. I also think a few of the young guys are not cutting it and need a full year of seasoning in tier 2.

I see the Pats have released Doucet. He was on the 1st line and was actually scoring some points. The other 20 yr old they have hasn't done anything this year. Go figure!

And the beat goes on...

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see what Michael MacAngus is contributing that is worth devoting a 20-year old spot to him. He must be really good at things I don't understand, I guess.
