Thursday Cheers and Jeers

The Grey Cup week edition of Cheers and Jeers:

Cheers
  • The thousands of Saskatchewanians (past, present and future) who will descend on McMahon Stadium Sunday, giving the Roughriders a home field advantage in the Grey Cup.
  • The people all over Regina who've been displaying their Rider Pride by wearing green all week long.
  • The J-man. One heck of an impressive first report card of the year! Way to go son!
  • Boston Pizza (north Albert). The J-man's choice for his report card celebration supper. The food and service were dandy.
  • Chapters. We were crazy enough to hit the store on a Saturday afternoon, and still made it through a massive lineup fairly quickly.
  • O'Hanlon's. The garlic cheese fries were garlicky. And cheesy. Just the way I likes 'em!

Jeers

  • I don't have any this week! Either that, or I'm refusing to let anyone rain on my personal Grey Cup parade.

Go ahead, let 'em rip!

Cheers:

Gerry's Freezer Meats. 1602-12th Avenue.
The best meat in Regina. For the Grey Cup I bought a rack of pork ribs. Huge meaty pork ribs....$9.75. I buy my meat order there every year, but no order is to small. Why buy meat at a grocery store when you can get it at that price and have it be such high quality.

Central Library:
Why go to Chapters when they have everything. I read a tremendous amount and it would bankrupt me to have to actually buy books. They have everything, and can get everything.

Jeers:

Saskatchewan Party:

By the sheer coincidence of the Riders being in the Grey Cup their crapping the bed on the budget is being overlooked. To inherit a surplus, and then 20 months later have us right back in deficit mode is incompetence. I think of Robert DeNiro's character in "Casino" when he is admonishing the Slots Manager for having the machine ring out 3 wins in 30 minutes. He said, "Wait a minute you didn't think you were being set up on the second win? If you didn't you're either to stupid to work here or you were in on it either way you're out". To not budget accordingly when the world told you Potash was not going to stay high tells us something. To be Premier you maybe need a little more private sector experience above being a late night DJ in Swift Current. To be a Finance Minister you maybe need a thicker resume than having owned/operated a KFC Franchise in Melville. Hey I'm a member of the Sask Party so it hurts me to call out my own, but so be it. The world had bad financial times when the NDP was in, but their budgets balanced.

Big Sky Farms:

Again to have a 64% government ownership stake, a CEO that flies the pig pen, and absolutely no warning to suppliers they were going to pull the pin is criminal.

Employment Network:

Bascically a shit organization as stated by someone on here last week. I fully concur. They get recruiting contracts cancelled because they take a retainer, but then don't find anyone to work there. City of Regina fired them when they couldn't find Engineers. They'll get hired by one company to staff employees, then takes employees out of that company to fill their other job orders. I had a colleague contract them for his company and he said never again.
