Pats limp into Christmas break

The Regina Pats were humbled 6-1 in Moose Jaw last night. Colten Teubert was the only Pat to beat Warrior netminder Joey Perricone. Frankly, the Tribe ran the visitors out of the rink.

The loss also dropped Regina a point back of Brandon for top spot in the WHL's east division. And, a technical snafu caused us to miss the first ten minutes of the 3rd period on the CKRM broadcast. It was that kind of night.

The Pats are now off (cynics might suggest they started the break early) until December 27th, when they travel to Brandon. Will the roster be different when the players return? I wouldn't bet against it.

Pete!..you had to sit through an ugly game. Unfortunately I was there and did do as well...The boys didn't win and I didn't win the 649...we both had the same odds.

As of the Christmas break, there are so many levels this team didn't measure up to the term "elite". Too little offence, poor defence, too many penalties, poor goaltending, poor leadership from management, coaching, scouting right through to the players. I'm sorry but thats how I see it.

Based on it's performance this team has no right to even be in second place. Without changes they will be fighting it out with Swift Current for third or fourth by seasons end. Who could this team beat in a seven game series if one were to begin today? EXACTLY!

I initially thought a couple of moves would be all that was needed. I am now convinced wholesale changes are required. I easily see the need for 5 player moves. Last night you witnessed what they usually play like on the road. No heart, no balls, no leadership, and worst of all, no pride in the sweater. This can't be all put on the players. If you don't have the talent or desire to be here, its not your fault. It is managements job to asses that and move you. Management fell behind the curve on that area. MJ went out and got Ellerby and Mclaren..where were you Brent?, trying to convice people this was an "elite crew".

Pete, you say you would be surprised if there were no moves. I think most knowledgeable fans will be disgusted if there aren't moves. When you see Brandon with a bunch of young guys having the best winning pctg in the east div, along with a plus 40 goals, it leaves me stone cold.............

I'm interviewing Garrett Mitchell tonight. He, Hill and Elder were the only three that I thought brought their "A" games to Moose Jaw Saturday night. I suppose you could include Tuebert as well.

That's just not good enough. I'm wondering if it's a case of the leaders not leading, or the followers not following? Hard to say.

your probably right...overall it is just not how elite teams play. Could you imagine a Don Hay team being outscored 10-1 in two games against shall we say Chilliwack...not bloooody likely.
Now here is question to you and please answer honestly...are we buyers or sellers?
Cheers!

No question, they're not what I consider an elite team to look like either.

With that in mind, I believe there's a strong enough core there to make us buyers, and opposed to sellers. Here's my list (open to debate, of course):

Rowat
Pyett
Teubert
Valach (I wouldn't have included him two weeks ago, but I like his game right now)
Eberle
Kraus
Hill
Mitchell
Kennedy

That's it, as far as I see. Nobody else falls in to the "untouchable" category for me. You'll notice a couple of fairly significant exceptions from the list, and they're not left off by accident.

OK, I'm good with being buyers, so let's do it! Man...my list was almost a carbon copy of yours but I did have a couple of young d-men on mine.

A lack of production, grit, desire and leadership are common denominators amoung the group you left off. Leflar, Ofukany, Gross and Cerveny are busts. Ross and Mcangus look like they might need a change of scenery, but are good trade bait. I have a place in my heart for Elder however. When he plays like a big mean man he is really effective, but when he doesn't, Tanya Harding would be a better option. Fraipont wont be back as a 20 yr old but might find a home in the B.C. interior. Hanson?, why have the kid around if he can't play or your not going to play him. I tend to think he could have done what Cerveny did. This season so far has been a waste for him.

Let's throw out some names; Robin Figren, J.D. Watt, Tyler Swystun, Mark Santorelli, Oscar Moeller, Dana Tyrell, Greg Gardner, Ty Wishart, Bud Holloway.
Any thing in that group you like? Any other names you might like to see here that we might have a shot at getting?

Won't bite huh?....lol....probably wise on your part. I am sure that a lot of wheels are in motion. Teams shopping players, checking depth charts, teams trying to load up etc. Most trades have usually been in the works for a period of time. After the teams return on the 27th, the dealine comes up pretty fast. Some teams barter right up to the last minute. I suspect the Pats will make more than one deal with likely mutiple players and multiple teams involved. One thing is certain, they have to do something if they hope to REALLY get back in the mix. Everybody everywhere seems to believe that.

Geez, I kind of fell asleep at the switch on this one - sorry!

It's hard for me to give an answer, mostly because I'm really not familiar enough with the players in the Western Conference. Negrin for Nick Ross - would that be the definition of irony?

Obviously consistent secondary scoring and leadership are in short supply. And our defensive stats are nothing to get excited about either. Where to begin?
