Dis 'n dat

I suppose no one should be surprised that the Saskatchewan Roughriders promoted 66-year old Ken Miller to head coach. Miller was the offensive coordinator last year under Kent Austin, and helped devise an innovative - and highly effective - offensive scheme. The question is: who will be responsible for "coaching up" Kerry Joseph and the other quarterbacks? The job Austin did in developing Joseph into the league's MVP last season was incredible.

The Regina Pats have lost three in a row on home ice, and now lead Moose Jaw by only two points for top spot in the WHL's east division. That's quite a dramatic turnaround from January, in which the Pats picked up at least a point in 12 straight games. Obviously things need to get turned around quickly, as the Pats and Warriors tangle in a home-and-home set this weekend. It should be an intense couple of games! Let's hope the teams decide the outcome this weekend, as opposed to the men in the striped shirts.

Hi Pete - it's been a while for me..lol

Just got back from the beaches of Mexico with the sun and cervesas! It takes a little while to get back into the mental part of winter, hockey, snow shovelling!

It looks like the boys had a good January (maybe not that good) It appears there were a lot of lopsided shootout wins, OT wins etc etc. JD Watt said in the LP the other day that they were pretty lucky and outplayed in some games. These things tend to even out. The last three games goaltending, offense, special teams..whatever. Everything was poor.

The Pats have also been plagued with some crappy officiating BUT expect more if you wear a Pats jersey!! The Refs only do what Richard Deorksen tells them to, if they ever want to work again. He is a long time Pat hater and I am saying that up front! In the 82 season he ordered the Refs to take the Pats out of the league final. They obeyed his command. The Pats one game were penalized like 20-2 against Portland. He hated them because they were a physical, offensive team. They had beaten the beloved WHL darlings (Lethbridge Broncos) and were on their way to the Mem Cup. Deorksen seen to it that didn't happen. To this day I have no respect for him.

The Pats have played tentative as of late. They have to play with what I call "controlled rage", tell the legaue to screw itself, and play Pats style hockey. If suspensions happen, they happen. It will probably bring the team closer together. I am telling you this team will get no breaks, ask Deorksen!

Take care!

Normally I don't put a lot of stock in conspiracy theories, but I have seen some pretty goofy calls in my time here. Mind you, Brent Parker's outspoken nature has probably cheesed off a few people at the league level, which doesn't help matters. Mind you, that doesn't mean I think Brent's comments were inaccurate.

I agree, the Pats have to get back to basics this weekend. Hit everyone in a Warriors sweater, and outwork the opponents on every shift. If they don't, second place in the division is a very real possibility by Sunday morning.
