Pats trim roster

The Regina Pats dropped three players from the active roster today. Forward Dru Cotterill and goaltender Damien Ketlo have been assigned to midget AAA teams in Alberta and B.C. respectively. Import forward Marco Insam was released, meaning the Pats will go with veteran Kaspars Saulietis and newcomer Rudolph Cerveny in the two import slots. "Salty" will also claim one of the three overage roster spots the Pats are entitled to.

I got the feeling from talking to Head Coach Curtis Hunt on SportZone last night that a trade or two is in the works to address the team's lack of scoring punch. Since the blueline is an obvious source of depth, it wouldn't be a major shock to see a veteran defenceman dealt - but first the Pats have to make sure Logan Pyett and Nick Ross are returned to junior by the Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes. Stay tuned!

Hey Pete, sorry about that mind reading thing..lol.

A little surprised they didn't keep Ketlo and use Bosch as trade bait. Having two goalies one year apart in age doesn't usuually work well. Ideally the backup should be 2 yrs younger. Rowatt was 16 yrs when he started as a backup.

Bosch will be going into his draft year as a backup. With Linden clearly being # 1 and probaly for a couple more years, getting enough starts to impress may be difficult with this squad. Another team may be able to use him more. Ketlo has probably outplayed Bosch in the pre-season so why not keep him. He could get a few starts as a 16 yr old and few more as a 17 yr old in his draft year. Rowatt is very young and will likely be here a while, hence there is not much room for either a 17 or 16 yr old. The 16 yr old would have been the best bet.

Now, how do we know they aren't using Bosch as trade bait by keeping him around? If Ketlo is ready, then maybe Bosch could be included in a package for some help up front.

Or, maybe they just want an older back-up in the event Rowatt struggles this year. And, if Rowatt sticks with the Kings organization next year, I'd feel a lot better about an 18 year old starter (Bosch), then handing the reins to a 17 year old. Just me speculating...

Man - anything is possible! They have already said in the LP that if not this year, they will have a problem by next. Rowatt will play here as an 18 yr old and again next year as a 19 yr old. They can't send him to the minors as a 19 yr old and he won,t make that team by next year.

Did you see the mastercard top ten pre-season picks? Only two WHL teams..hum...does no one think Vancouver will be in the mix? I sure do with Don Hay as coach. The WHL reporters think Vancouver will win the West division yet after winning the Mem Cup they don't make the pre season rankings..wow.

They did have Calgary as no.2 and they are a safe bet to be there. In a lot of people's mind, they are the best team in the dub, especially if they get Alzner back. London is #1 and I think I would have picked them there as well. To leave Vancouver and Medicine Hat out is puzzling.

Geez, I don't know. London's pretty good. Mason's a stud in goal. And if they get Gagner and Pat Kane back, look out. But I doubt they'll be coming back - the Knights sure aren't counting on it. Kitchener is also gonna be tough, and Oshawa (Tavares hits 90 goals this year?) will be right there as well.

I think Calgary and Vancouver are the class of the dub. Giants not even in the top ten? Gimme a break! The Pats could be right there, or they could be middle of the pack. All depends on what happens up front.

No idea who is any good in the "Q".
