Season ends in style

A sell-out crowd of almost 6200 fans got full value for their dollar Saturday night at the Brandt Centre, as the Regina Pats rallied to beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 in overtime. Rookie sensation Jordan Eberle scored the overtime winner, to finish his first WHL campaign with 28 goals.

The Pats looked as though they were going through the motions for the first half of the game, before coming alive in the third period and rallying from a 2-1 deficit. The other goal scorers for the Pats were Justin Scott, Craig Schira and Josh Elder. You have to think the Pats coaches were happy to see offensive contributions from unlikely sources. The playoffs are all about unsung heroes rising to the occasion, after all.

So, now Curtis Hunt's crew has the week to prepare for their first-round encounter with the Swift Current Broncos. Games one and two are Friday and Saturday night at the Brandt Centre. Should be a fun ride!

Overall I was happy with the game being #72 and all. It should be a good first series but it will be hard to win. The Pats will have to play with determination and more discipline. You don't want to give any team 7 or 8 PP chances per game. Pete, have you noticed Stoez doesn't seem to be chucking them with the intensity of previous fights? I observed in his fight against Swift he seemed to be favouring his right hand and last night he more or less hung on and didn't throw any bombs. In my mind he hasn't really destroyed anyone since his fight with Gauthier when he first arrived. I hope there isn't a problem.

Question,

Are the Pats going to play Strueby in the play-offs? The kid is a proven goal scorer, one game = one goal!!

Well, I remember Stoesz getting into three tilts in a game against (I think) PA a couple of weeks ago at the Brandt Centre. I definitely think he's picking his spots, though - as evidenced by his refusal to tangle with the Blades Garret Klotz last weekend.

Y'know, I wouldn't be surprised to see the coaches dress young Strueby ahead of guys like Lind and Reich. Might not happen, just because of his inexperience, but you never know...

Herd that Strueby had his teeth knocked out in the first period and put on a mask for the second and third and scored his goal.

Lets hope the Pats can get thru the first round and build some momentum.

You heard correctly. The kid is tougher than I am! Mind you, that's not saying much.

The Pats really need to get hold of some confidence - especially since they haven't had any playoff success recently. If they can knock off the Broncos, well who knows?
