Wake-up call

The Regina Pats dropped two games in Alberta this weekend, losing 5-3 in Red Deer Friday and 3-1 in Medicine Hat Saturday night. The losses effectively killed any hopes the Pats had of catching Brandon for first place in the WHL's East Division. Also, the losses gave the Pats an indication of what it takes to compete with the Central Division teams - where the real power lies in the Eastern Conference. And to date, they haven't been up to the task. I'll do a little research to find out what Regina's record against Central Division clubs is this year. Pretty sure it won't be pretty.

In the meantime, Huntsie's boys are back on home ice tonight to take on the emminently beatable Moose Jaw Warriors. Young Jacob expects to be entertained this evening. I'm guessing close to 5,000 other attendees will feel the same way.

Oh, they're competing all right (I guarantee that's what the coaches would say), which is fine and dandy. But they're not winning those games. I think it's time for more than moral victories.

Great post Pete..wakeup call for sure. Don't look now but I smell a six game losing streak on the way. They haven't beat Kootney this year, Brandon is waiting at home for some payback and Tri-Cities have a leading scorer and Carey Price.

I think they have beaten Calgary once, Red Deer once, and Lethbridge twice.(all at home) They have not beat any of those teams on the road. It is getting a little old talking of moral victories. Medicine Hat has kicked their butts four time this year and all the other teams in that division have pretty much owned them. Just now they think they are figuring out what its going to take to win against good teams?? The Tigers didn't get 96 points with smoke and mirrors. Playing 50 good minutes against those teams gets you nothing. I heard Sutter and Desjardins were stroking Hunt about how tough they boys played. They were patronizing him and I hope he didn't buy it.

Tonight they didn't go the net much, would not forecheck or cycle for at least two periods. I counted well over 10 turnovers at the opposing blue line by the boys. Eberle must have had the puck taken off his stick 5 times alone trying to deke at the blue line. If nothing else dump and forecheck.

They lost any chance of 1st place this weekend. I hope they don't lose a playoff spot. They have nothing wrapped yet and tough schedule to end the year. The weak sisters will not be so weak anymore and an extended losing streak could spell a nasty ending.

The Pats went 1/14 on the pp over the weekend including 2 5on3's last night. If they score a few more pp goals maybe its a different outcome.

Talked to friend from the Hat. Pats played good road game for 50 mins but didn't score much. Somebody forgot to take their man and the trailer scored (even strength) Refs diidn't lose game for Pats. No offence did. Sounds like defensive break downs and poor tending on Friday. Just crap last night.

They may have been close but that only counts in horeshoes and hand grenades. The teams struggles playing good teams but especially on the road. Alas I think that water finds its own level and the Pats are floating back to mediocrity. They may have peaked a bit too soon. Its a bad time for a melt down. If you recall they played very average during the last month last year, and were out in the first round!

Hey dudes,

Said it all along, and all the bandwagon jumpers can get off any time soon. Pats do not advance past the first round!
