The Regina Pats edged the Swift Current Broncos 1-0 last night at the Brandt Centre. Michael MacAngus scored the lone goal of the game, cashing in a rebound of a terrific individual effort by Pats rookie Jordan Eberle with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Both goalies - Kyle Moir of the Broncos and Lynden Rowat of the Pats - were excellent. For a low-scoring game, the 5000+ fans in attendance were reasonably well entertained. With the win the Pats move two points up on Swift Current and Prince Albert for second place in the WHL's East Division.
There was a little extra excitement in the broadcast booth last night, as young Jacob tossed the proverbial cookies between the first and second periods! Damn that Smarties ice cream! Note to Pats/Brandt Centre staff: having some paper towels on hand in the pressbox might not be a such bad idea. Those media guys are slobs!
Tonight its the Super-Duper-Stupendous Bowl. I hope the Colts win, but I have a hard time disregarding the Bears defence and special teams. Hopefully it'll be an entertaining game. And hopefully nobody barfs.

Just read Greg Harders article on the Pats. He understands the situation. There is a small chance the Pats could catch up to Brandon, but that would pretty much take a Brandon melt down. They are also just a few losses from being in a fight to make the playoffs. Guys talking about Memorial Cup and 1st place is a little premature to say the least. The Pats have to focus on just playing real good hockey and try to win 3 out of every 5 games they play.
They should try and get a winning record against every team in the division which is a good note for the playoffs. They do not have that yet. This division is so tight that the 4th place team will be as dangerous as the 2nd place team.
The sad thing about the standings is that the Pats should be in 1st or challenging for it rather than hoping. A good period doesn't win you a game, a good month doesn't win you first place or the Mem cup. The team has lots of work ahead.
