Riders go retro

The Saskatchewan Roughriders unveiled their new, retro third jerseys today. The early reviews from the message board faithful aren't overly positive. I'll reserve comment until I see the jerseys on the field Sunday in the Labour Day classic. Just six more sleeps!

Pistol,

I like the idea of the Retro Look, but they sure missed it!!! Why on earth did they not go waaaaaaay back and incorporate the old look with the numbers on the front and back???

While we are talking about jerseys and going waaaaaay back, Team Canada missed the boat as well. Whoever is in charge of the marketing really should be demoted. If Team Canada was at all trying to re-live the 1972 summit Series, why would they not put the boys in the 1972 uniform???

Those 1972 uniforms were bar none the best Team Canada look ever! I know Russia has an excuse, there is no more CCCP, but Team Canada missed out on the look and merchandise!!!

And one more thing Pistol, have you been to Pats Camp, any rookie surprises, who is coming to main camp?

That´s all for now Pistol, give me your best shot!

Hey Coach,

I'm guessing the Riders were limited by what the manufacturer could/would do. So they probably had to make it work within an existing Reebok template. I'll wait to see the jerseys on the players before I pass final judgement, but why is the RBK logo on the sleeve as big as the Rider logo? That I don't get.

As for the Team Canada unis - I kind of like that they didn't copy the '72 jerseys. That series was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Let them come up with their own identity for this one.

I haven't been out to Pats camp. I looked over the list of 20 training camp invitees, and there were no big surprises. Interesting to note - of the 2007 draft picks, 4th rounder Jordan Weal looks to be the steal of the draft. Greg Harder's story in the L-P today confirms what I've been hearing - Weal will be a good one.

Stoez it is said will stay in the Atlanta system this year. That will hurt the Pats big time. They played much better and bigger with him in the line-up. People poh poh the tough guys but every GM in the Pros and Junior want them and need them.

It is ironic that guys like Stoez, Klotz, Boogaard, Hordichuk etc etc will likely have 7 or 8 yr careers at 700K - 900K per season. Perhaps manage their money and retire young as multi-millionaires, and probably never score 10 NHL goals. Recent posts about guys with talent who never got a shot speak to the irony of this.

Pete, it kind of looks like the Pats have a plethera of d-men coming back. Kulchar is ready and has to play now. They say Pym is impressive and they may want to bring another 16 yr old along slowly. Looks like someone will have to go.

If Stoez is actually gone that will be a big 20 yr old hole to fill. Do you think Sauletis is worth both a 20 yr old and euro spot? When he is good he is a load but filling both spots is a tall order. What are your thoughts on the shakeout of this years squad. Will you be doing a major post on your thoughts soon? Your always insightful and honest!
