Another strong home-ice performance from the Pats last night, knocking off Spokane 4-1. If the Pats were able to cash in a couple more scoring opportunities (an on-going problem), they would've run the Chiefs out of the rink.
And speaking of the facility, we were treated to a 46 minute delay between the second and third periods - thanks to a zamboni malfunction! To be specific, it was the inch deep groove the zamboni left all the way down the centre of the ice that was a problem - apparently that doesn't make for the safest skating conditions. And then there was the condition of the visitor's dressing room and media room. Ugh.
The Pats visit Swift Current on Wednesday, then take on Moose Jaw in a home-and-home set on the weekend.

Unfortunately this team is so enigmatic! They show signs of being on their way and then shoot themselves in the foot. Had they shown up for Saturdays game they would be in third place today and one game below .500. Instead they are three games under and struggling to hold onto fourth. They have to win their next four games and start making a statement. If they do that they will be one game over .500 and have February and March to make their mark.
It is more than disturbing that at this point in the season we should be talking about trying to get back to .500 hockey. They still have to play better on the road because you have to play playoff games in the other building. It looks like Brandon and Swift are starting to open up some distance and the Pats had better catch fire soon. The minimum you want is 2nd place because that gives you the extra home game in the first round.
The way I see it this team can make a strong push and perhaps steal 2nd place. However if they continue win a couple and then lose a couple, they won't make any ground. They could also be at risk of missing the playoffs if their road record doesn't improve drastically or if they have another bad run of games. With this crew, who knows??
