Spare time - go figure!

Geez, what's a guy to do with all the spare time this weekend? It's Yoda's birthday tomorrow, so I'll be busy with that in the evening. Might even keep the little Jedi up past 11pm for that one!

But, with the Pats on the road - and the Riders out of the playoffs - things have definitely slowed down on a personal sports front. Young Jacob has a soccer game Saturday, and I suppose I'll watch the Lions and Als do battle Sunday. But really, that's it. Gee, I might even have time to drag my carcass down to Carm's gym this weekend. What a radical idea!

So, who else thinks:
1) The Lions are going to b-slap the Als Sunday; and,
2) The Pats will be lucky to win three of six on their road trip?

I have never liked the Lions and I am not starting now. They probably will win, but I hope not. Dickenson has never been real good in Grey Cup games. Calvillo on the other hand has won a few Cups. Who knows. It often works out that the favourite doesn't win. Maybe the Leos had their best game last Sunday.

Listened to the Drew Remenda Show tonite and the had Jim Hopson on the air. He suggested that there would be a number of changes and likely some shocking ones both for the Riders and every other team in the CFL. He said that Joseph's contract was going to be a problem at 350K or 400K. WOW he even talked about restructuring contracts and innovative solutions with new cap. I got the distinct feeling that they might want to keep him but don't know if they can without losing another key component. He said the face of the team will change substantially.Very interesting.

I think the Pats best chance for a split trip would be wins against Chilliwack, Prince George, and Kelowna. Vancouver and Kamloops are very hot right now. Kootney will be the last game and road weary teams often get kicked in these games. Winning the first game is very important. As an insider Pete, are the Pats anywhere close to finding another Euro sniper or from anywhere for that matter? They are still real spotty in their goal scoring. On game they can score 5 or 6 and the next game have a hard time getting two. They need a game breaker in my mind who can score a goal scorers goal when they are only playing average. Someone who can score a couple and get them back into a game. They have not done very well when down a couple of goals. There is no pure offence. Is there anything on the horizon?

Good question. Unfortunately I haven't had an opportunity to ask it of anyone "in the know" lately. It is getting kinda late to be adding a European, so I suspect that becomes less of an option with each passing day. Unless they can swing a deal for a Euro who's already playing here. I suppose that becomes an option as we inch towards the WHL trade deadline.

I heard from a totally unreliable source (billet) that they were or had been close to landing another guy from the Czech Republic who had apparently been overlooked due to injury or something. Like you said that little scenario seems to be getting a little more unlikely at this date.

I like certain aspects of the team but I do know that something is missing. Well obviously Kalus and Tolpeko. This year they just don't have that big PP guy or dangerous threat who can explode at any time. They have some trade bait but who really has what we need and will part with it. Getting Hulak back will help some but he is still only a rookie. I like Troy Ofukuny out of Kelowna. At the end of the day it will likely be Brandon at the top. They have the guns and Tyler Plante. They will likely trade from a little more defense.

I don't know for certain that they didn't, but the Pats really should have made a pitch for Devin Setoguchi from the Blades before Lorne Molleken dealt him. That would have helped matters considerably.

I suspect Brent Parker will pull the trigger on a deal (or two) before the trade deadline. Which will still give the Pats plenty of time to take a run at Brandon for top spot in the division.

I agree he is going to need to do something to get a little more POP in his lineup. Maybe a little more speed as well. We are quick from the blueline in but not blinding fast. We have 7 D-men dressed and that can't be too good. They played Pyett on r-wing last nite. Sounded lilke he was a fish out of water.

Boy were they lucky to get two points. They played the first three minutes, took 57 off, played good in OT and won in a shootout. I listened to it and they sounded brutal. Hunt was not happy after the game. Said they were likely not deserving of anything but got 2 points. Goaltending was poor. Rowatt gave up two weak goals according to Hunt. This kid has a shot at being drafted but he has got to get his head out of his butt. Making a great save and then giving up a floater from the blueline doesn't cut it. Goaltending has let the club down last year and again at time s this year. It has got to be better. On this road trip the teams only get tougher.

Regarding Setoguchi, he sure would have helped the Pats. PG however gave up a kings ranson I think. I believe Molleken got their 1st round pick from last year aa well as from the next bantam draft.

McCardle is another. He is enigmatic to be sure. When he decides to play he can dominate. When he doesn't he vanishes. Nobody will get him until at least Christmas but then at that point what is he worth? Probably far more than the Pats would pay. However a motivated McCardle would look good in blue!!

"Motivated" is the key word there. He and Justin Bernhardt are the poster children for players whose drive and determination rarely match up with their talent. No thanks, too much risk - not even reward.

I agree completely with you on McCardle. The Pats need a couple of players to reach their pre-season billing but he is not the answer.

If you could put Kyle Ross's heart, grit and determination into Bernhardt and Lind, you would have two first rounders.

Probably watch of the meaningless Grey Cup today but I don't know why!

Pat have scored 3 goals in two games. They have given up 5 = 1.5 for and 2.5 against. Beginning to have a familiar ring. At least they got two points on Friday. I might join that lucky to win 3 you first mentioned. Boy do they need some scoring help. They were lucky to get away 2-0 on Vancouver. played well defensively but absolutely no offence. No one wants to go into tarffic. When you watch a webcast you really see it on the road. Hay is the best coach in the Dub and his teams really play a pro style. They are the class of the league.

I'm thinking Vancouver vs Everett will be a hell of a playoff series, should that ever come to pass.

Not sure why so many Pats are allergic to the crease. A guy like Kyle Ross tries his hardest to lead the way, but what can you do if others won't follow? I'm starting to think the Pats miss Matt Robinson more than Tolpeko and Kalus. Robo was fearless when driving the net, and I think that rubbed off on the players around him. That's just not happening this year. At least not on most nights.

Well, time to check out the Lions and Als. Go Clermont.
