You know what seems awfully ironic? When local or provincial sporting organizations complain about a lack of media coverage/awareness, yet can't be bothered to do a damn thing about it!
Or, are the folks at the Saskatchewan Softball Association, KidSport, and the organizers of the recent mini World Cup soccer tournament in Regina just not that swift? Quite frankly, it doesn't break my heart that they haven't seen fit to send a representative to appear on my little cable sports show. But, they should also forgo the "right" to whine about a lack of interest/coverage of their respective endeavours. If they can't make time for free air time, one wonders how interested they really are in growing their respective sports.
Or, would they be more inclined if the offer came from a higher profile media outlet? Well, here's a little tip folks - TSN and SportsNet aren't going to come knocking. Take what you can get.
Just one of those things I wonder about. This concludes today's lesson in amateur sports media relations.

And when the local sports teams want you to keep track of them at "away" tournaments and whatnot, but couldn't be bothered to phone in, fax or e-mail any results. Same thing for news, "we didn't get any coverage of that event from you people! No one from the public showed up!" Hmmm, maybe tell us it was happening. Advertise maybe? Your event was stupid anyway. I swear they think we have reporters driving around and crawling through bushes/digging dumpsters incognito all day. Sonsabitches. MH
PS -- talk radio rant? MH
Actually, I suspect some groups subscribe to the "media must have esp" theory. You know, "we didn't bother to tell you our event was happening - you should have just known."
Sounds like some women I've dated, but I digress.
Rant tomorrow, if I can fit it into my busy, busy schedule.
