So this is what 42 feels like, huh? Not too exciting, actually. It must be true, birthdays stop feeling special after 40 - at least until you hit the big 5-0.
Mind you, it'll be a fun day. Jacob is taking me out for lunch. My mom has already called. A few friends have emailed their best wishes. All in all, not so bad.
Speaking of the fruit of my loins, his Little League batting average is now up to .851. Major league scouts can contact me directly.
Looks like a nice day out there - enjoy it!

Belated birthday greetings Pete. Although it's often a bold face lie, just keep saying; I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!!
A couple of Saskatchewan boys did it in the third period for the Ducks, likely be a grindy series. I want to cheer for both teams but I have to settle on Annaheim. Just think the Pats could have had Getzlaff...so much for the great scouting staff!!!
I,m glad the Giants won but I would have been OK with the Tigers winning. After watching the game though I felt frustrated that the Pats are so damned far away from the level of the teams we watched at the Mem Cup. Just think about this: the Giants have only been in existence for 6 friggin years, been to the cup twice, won it once, and trust me will be a power for years to come. Parker owned the Pats for 6 years before the Giants were even a franchise. I'm betting on Chilliwack, Edmonton or Everett winning a cup before us. Those teams have better scouting, management and coaching than we do, and it SHOWS. There are a few cheerleaders who might say otherwise but they are full of crap. This group will never win anything. They have shown they can't. What other GM could keep his job for 13 years and produced so little??? The Riders had to make a change and so do the Pats!
And I thought I was feeling owly! I'll put it this way - if the Pats aren't an elite (top 10 in Canada) team next year, fans have every right to protest - loudly. I know I'll certainly be asking some pointed questions.
As for Getzlaf - darn right he would have looked good in a Pats uniform - providing somebody here would have been able to motivate him, which was often an issue when he played in Calgary. Seems to be over it, though!
Actually I'm a pretty calm guy. I am also a big Jr hockey fan and have been for decades now. When I think of a young man oh say 25 yrs of age watching the Pats win a league championship under the leadership of Bryan Murray. 27 years have come and gone since then and still nothing. Close in 85 but still zippo. That young man isn't so young anymore.
For 9 years the Hicke group did nothing and used the team as their source of entertainment. They didn't win anything. Produced a few good players but as a team "nada".
Along came the Parker's and folks thought maybe in a few years were back to Mem Cup quality. 13 years later we haven't even won two rounds in the playoffs. An early pennant thanks to Graham Tuer, and the debacle pennant of 2001. BUT really there has been nothing even close to a team capable of winning it's way to the Mem Cup in the Parkers tenure. I have looked at the returnees for this year and honetly I don't see a Memorial Cup quality nucleus. The Giants have done in 6 years what we couldn't in 13...go figure. Everett has been a powerhouse since they came around a few years back. We on the other hand have been mired in mediocrity. Something has got to change!!! You see Pete, I don't have another 27 yrs to wait. Ticked off more than a bit....frustrated....ooohhhh ya
Don't forget........Toronto Maple Leafs and London Knights........plus I've been here almost 15 years. I feel your pain!
I see where Constantine is leaving Everett. That should be interesting.
